Google Mobile App for Nokia S60 smartphones

Google launched Google Mobile App for Nokia S60 smartphones. Google Mobile App gets you the information you need quickly, with instant access to Google Search, and launches your favorite Google products.

  • Start a search without waiting to load a mobile browser.
  • Search suggestions and your search history appear as you type.
  • Access Maps, Gmail, News and more all from one place.

Features

Instant access to search. Start a Google search without loading a mobile web browser and navigating to Google.com. With one-click search you can begin your search quickly and easily.

Google Suggest and search history. Get rapid access to your previous searches and see popular completions for your query - just click to repeat them without having to retype.

Easy access to other Google products. Launch other Google mobile products including Maps, Gmail, News and more.

As a user experience designer I like to take every opportunity to better understand the issues that get in the way of people making the most of their mobile phones. The development of Google Mobile App for Nokia S60 smartphones, which launched today, has provided an opportunity to address three aspects of an issue we hear about on a regular basis: immediacy.

1. Immediacy of access

We know from our users that navigating through menus introduces an unwanted delay. Our quick key mechanism launches the application directly from the home screen, making search, Google Maps, Gmail, and other Google mobile services available immediately.

The quick key reminder (left) and the app showing your current location (right)

2. Immediacy of location

Google Mobile App for Nokia Series 60 smartphones comes with location awareness built in. If you use the My Location feature, you'll get local search results that relate to where you are. You can opt in or out of this at any time, via the Settings menu.

Search suggestions that combine with your location to give local search results

3. Immediacy of query formulation

We have adopted a dual approach to help make query formulation quick and efficient. First, your search history is readily available so that it's easy to repeat queries. Second, we offer query suggestions based on what has been entered so far to get you to your results as quickly as possible.

Search history (left) and search suggestions (right)

Additionally, we like to work with feedback about earlier versions of our products, such as the quick key launch feature. We found that some users didn't need a home screen reminder, while others liked having it there. So in Google Mobile App, we added an item in Settings to let people choose what best suits them.

Google Mobile App can be downloaded from http://m.google.com on your phone's browser.

AccelBall 3D: 3D moving ball in phone

This is a very cool python application where a ball moving 1D, 2D or 3D inside your Symbian phone. Almost everything are customizable, such as 1D, 2D and 3D and even the effective rate of the ball rebound!

Watch the video how it works.

Tools you need:

  • N95AccelerometerPlugin
  • PythonForS60 1.4.5
  • aXYZ
  • MISO

Download everything here!

The AccelBall 3D author claims that it only works on N93/N95/N95 8GB. I've installed AccelBall on my N82. It works fine but just a tiny sign of lagging and no vibration feedback. Might be the problem of MISO. Overall, it is a very cool application. Kudos to MitchS60!

Free-iSMS: turns Symbian S60 sms style to iPhone style

Fancy of the iPhone sms style which has text conversation history viewing? junnikokuki got the idea by introducing Free-iSMS for Symbian S60 users. I've been using this application for a few weeks and found that it works with me perfectly. It shows the sender's name and contact number when the decive received new sms which is missing in Symbian OS. The user interface isn't running as fluid as the iPhone, there is no fluid but it fine for me. The conversation bubbles can be easily differentiated to read, short-cut key added, bonus features, etc. The only point I found hard to read the text is when scrolling down to read a long text message. You might miss where you just read it after scrolled down.

Free-iSMS is free of charge. You can make donation to the junnikokuki to show your support.

HelloOX 1.03 - Hack your S60 phone!

1.03 update
- MapDrives no longer needed, mapping drives code is now built-in HelloOX, that's mean hacking is much more easier, one app does all the step!(credit must go to FCA00000)
- All mapped drives would remove automatic, no reboot needed for removing them
- Since ROMPatcher doesn't works on some FP2 device, installing it is now an optional for FP2 user, no patches would apply and add to autostart, must do them manual
- Some guys complain cannot play N-GAGE games, the main problem is open4all patch applied. So, all ROMPatcher patches would not add to autostart on all device, must do it menual if you want
- Install rootCerts option removed from Pre FP1 & FP1 device, because installserver is enough. if you wanna install it, please install it menual from E:\HelloOX\updaterD.sisx before uninstall HelloOX
- Install Modo(a TCB file manger by leftup) is now an optional for all device
*If you hacked your phone already, you don't have to use this update version to hack it again! An update just make this app better, it will not hack for more!*

The easiest way to hack!

One step hacking for all S60 3rd, fp1, fp2, 5800:
Sign and Install HelloOX.1.03.Unsigned.sis, just run it after installed.
***must sign with a 17 capability Dev Cert***
HelloOX does all the rest for you!
Enjoy it!

What HelloOX will do?

Pre FP1 & FP1:
1. Unpack exe files to E:\hack\sys\bin\
2. Map Drives
3. Install ROMPatcher
4. Apply open4all patch
5. Move installserver.exe to C:\sys\bin\
6. Install Modo (optional)
7. Remove unneeded files and mapped drives
8. Done!

FP2:
1. Unpack exe files to E:\hack\sys\bin\
2. Map Drives
3. Install rootCerts
4. Install ROMPatcher (optional)
5. Install Modo (optional)
6. Remove unneeded files and mapped drives
7. Done!

5800:
1. Unpack exe files to E:\hack\sys\bin\
2. Map Drives
3. Install rootCerts
4. Install ROMPatcher
5. Apply open4all and ChangeSWIpolicyPath patches
6. Install Modo (optional)
7. Remove unneeded files and mapped drives
8. Done!

notes:
FP2 & 5800 doesn't have a working installserver yet! However, ROMPatcher working on some of them. If RP works, the ChangeSWIpolicyPath patch can let you install some unsigned apps, otherwise please sign your apps with leftup cert&key pair included in this package.

Please notice that there is a so called 1.04 version on the net wasn't by bugb is a bad(fake) release, it just repacked ROMPatcher to include the FP2 installserver patch, but it isn't pack correct, you'll not be able to install the ROMPatcher from it, even if you can install it, it'll cause some problem(infinite reboot confirmed on N96)!
